November 1st 2009: 999 days to go

Main gate 16 (by the Eastway exit of the A12) has come on a bit since the 2nd photo back in January.

The side of the Media Centre. Looking a leetle like the Pompidou Centre, before they put the pipes on...

I'm guessing all the work on the Stadium is going on inside now. Still impressive, though.

The "View Tube" container cafe on the Greenway is open now (for coffee and cakes!)

Just managed to miss the '1000 days to go' (after the fireworks in Central London, over the BT tower, last night), but it's still a milestone.

Sunset over the growing Olympic Village.

August 9th 2009

Coming soon to a piece of wasteland near you... the Olympic Velodrome!

The Media Centre begins to rise (immediately south of the Eastway and A12).

The Aquatic Centre, centre (with distinctive curved roof), beginning to rise to the east of the Olympic Stadium.
A side-on view of the growing Aquatic Centre (at a 90 degree rotation from the above photo), taken in the estate between Pudding Mill DLR and Stratford Station.

The rising Olympic Village.

June 13th 2009

View southwards, from the north of the site. It's starting to get a bit built up now...

The view from the bridge (just east of the Big Breakfast house).

The top ring of steel is on the Stadium now.

Earthworks. East of the Olympic Stadium.

(update with the benefit of hindsight. This area became the southern cement works, and ultimately the warm-up track for the Olympic Stadium).

Stratford Station, with the new Westfield shopping centre beginning to grow behind it.

Funnily enough, the aforementioned Westfield (east) shopping centre has sprung up pretty fast.

Starting on the Olympic Village (taken through the wires of a Heras fence).

March 3rd 2009

First peek from up the ramp onto the Greenway... it's getting big!

The main event.

A bit of building work east of the Olympic Stadium, where the Aquatic Centre will eventually be.

Saturday, 14 February 2009

February 14th 2009

Looking south down the River Lea from Lea Bank Square, activity is starting to pick up at the Handball Arena.

From the footbridge just beneath the Big Breakfast house, it's a race between trees and stadium to see which will grow fastest this spring.

And there's a lot more steel on the main stadium (view from the Greenway)

January 25th 2009

It's only just started, so you've really got to use your imagination for this one! Looking south from the Eastway (you can see Canary Wharf tower behind the 3 right-hand tower blocks).

Not a lot happening around the main gate, at the Eastway exit of the A12.

2 Lock Keepers Cottages, London E3 2NN (doesn't every kid of a certain age know that off by heart from Breakfast TV?!) is going to get a bit noisy once that stadium is full...

Who knew the beautiful blue skies in the back yard were a trick?!

Facing due east, looking at the west side of the stadium from the River Lea (just above Marshgate Lane)

South East corner of the Olympic Stadium, taken from the Greenway.

The South East corner of the site (looking north east from the Greenway, with Pudding Mill Lane DLR Station behind me).

A few facts and figures from the early signage

Welcome along

I live in North East London. Going past the site again on Saturday, I noticed the first bit of concrete has gone onto the steel supports for the Olympic Stadium.

So it seemed like a good idea to start taking a few pics, to be added to occasionally over time, watching the building work.

Nothing pro-style, you understand. Just a simple document of a changing skyline. In fact, I intend most snaps to be taken using my phone or smallest camera whilst I'm out for a runs or a bike ride.
Oh, and I can get away from any shouty builders faster that way...!
